Challenge
Finding a mentor is hard. The platforms out there match you based on job title and industry, but never tell you why someone showed up in your results. And the first thing they ask you to do is commit to a 30 to 60 minute session with a stranger. So most people browse, feel overwhelmed, and never reach out.
Approach
I watched how people actually look for mentors, mapped the full mentee journey, and evaluated three existing platforms. The biggest insight was that people drop off not because they can't find mentors, but because the gap between finding someone and talking to them is too big.
I turned that into three design principles and designed the complete mentee experience, from onboarding to matching to booking to feedback. Then I tested it with three participants and iterated on the main friction point.

Plato gives you three curated mentor recommendations instead of fifty search results, and tells you exactly why each person is a good fit. Your first session is a free 15-minute intro call, and the platform helps you figure out what to talk about. After each session, your feedback makes the next match better. The goal is to make finding a mentor feel less like a job search and more like a friend making an introduction.
